Want to keep your car’s Gear Shift panel looking fresh and scratch-free? Installing a TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) film is a great way to protect it from daily wear and tear. Follow these easy steps for a smooth and bubble-free finish.
What You’ll Need:
- TPU film
- Water-soap solution (a mix of water and a few drops of mild soap)
- Spray bottle
- Squeegee
- White felt scraper
- Wiping cloth

Step-by-Step TPU Installation Guide:
Step 1: Choose the Ideal Environment
- Ensure the workspace is clean and free from dust.
- Avoid areas with heavy dust or debris.
- Park your car in a shaded or indoor area to prevent direct sunlight, which can cause the solution to evaporate too quickly.
Step 2: Surface Preparation
- Clean the interior surfaces thoroughly using a microfiber cloth to remove dust, dirt, and debris.
- Lightly spray a thin, even layer of water-soap solution onto the surface where the TPU film will be applied. Be careful not to oversaturate.
Step 3: Film Application
- Carefully peel off one side of the TPU film and carefully align it with the area where the water-soap solution has been applied. Then, gradually peel off the entire TPU film. For complex areas, it is recommended to have two people assist with the installation. Avoid spraying the water-soap solution on the back of the TPU film, as this may cause it to lose control and stick together.Note: Avoid applying excessive water-soap solution, as it may interfere with proper positioning.
- Use a squeegee to remove excess water and air bubbles by pressing from the center outward.
- For areas that need adjustment, carefully peel off the film, spray a small amount of water-soap solution on the adhesive side, and then proceed with the same application process as before.
Step 4: Adjustments and Finishing
- After removing all air bubbles, use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surface dry.
- If handling small sections, use tweezers for precision placement.
- Allow the film to settle for at least 24 hours before touching or cleaning to ensure proper adhesion.
Important Notes:
- Be sure not to overapply the water-soap solution, as this may cause the TPU film to deform and lose its adhesion.
- For complex TPU film applications, it is recommended to spray the water-soap solution only on the car interior surface, rather than immediately on the back of the TPU film. Start by peeling off one side of the film and placing it directly onto the pre-sprayed surface. Then, carefully peel off the entire film. This method helps prevent deformation and sticking together, reducing the risk of installation failure.
- If bubbles persist after installation, they should dissipate over time; however, stubborn bubbles can be carefully pressed out using a squeegee.
By following these steps, you can ensure a smooth and professional TPU film installation, protecting your car’s interior from scratches and wear.
